Every year around Jen’s birthday in August, we receive in the mail a coupon from Rochester Mills brewery. This coupon is for a free entrée and free beer glass, so naturally, we gotta go. Rochester Mills is a very spacious restaurant with an outside patio and an area that features local music, but they are best known for their beer. Three of the best are the red ale, the milkshake stout and the paint creek porter, which we finally were able to try. This beer is so popular, it seems that every time we would go there they were out of it. The beer is dark and rich as well as velvety with overtones of roasted chocolate. It is a must have if you like full bodied beers brimming with lots of flavor.
Their food menu is very eclectic, not your typical bar food. The menu ranges from goulash to wings and fries. Jen and I split the poutine as an appetizer. The poutine was very good and hearty. We ordered ours with braised short rib which was melt in your mouth tender. The gravy was tasty and the fries homemade. My only complaint was it could’ve used some more cheese curds. The portion was large enough that we were both nearly full before our entrees came. A big shout out to our server Dylan who recommended this to us. Not only did he know the menu but he was extraordinarily attentive and checked on us repeatedly. Top notch server.
Jen ordered the Santa Fe chicken salad which was so big she took most of it home and ate it for lunch the next day. Jen seemed to enjoy this salad very much especially the cilantro lime dressing which was extra tangy which is how she likes her salad dressing. Now, I ordered the wings. They come three ways, BBQ ,Hot or &#!ing Hot. I love hot and spicy foods so I ordered the $#!ING Hot wings. Warning to all they were exactly as advertised and blew me away. Not only was I sweating and sniffling, I was in PAIN! My mouth was on fire, and every pain receptor on my tongue was working overtime. I want everyone to know, this is a good thing, because most of the time when menus say an item is hot it usually isn’t, but this was and then some. Good thing I had plenty of beer to wash it down.
Jen and I have been here several times and not just for the birthday visits, and we will continue to go there. I encourage anyone who enjoys quality craft beer with an interesting menu, go to Rochester Mills, you wont be disappointed.
