COVID Review: Alex’s of Berkley

We had some time to kill between an early morning appointment and when COSTCO opened. We packed our masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, water bottles and combat gear and were ready to stock up on a few things. We were driving by Alex’s of Berkey and decided to pop in for a breakfast. We haven’t eaten breakfast in a restaurant for like 4 months or more.

The food was just ok. Certainly nothing super special. The corned beef hash was super salty. Hashbrowns average. The sausage links were very thick which is how Omar likes them. The bacon was crispy and cooked perfect.

But alas, this is about COVID procedures not the food. The place was pretty empty when we arrived. There was only one table of 4 ladies, far across the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly, but her mask sat right under her nose. Rather pointless, I guess technically she has a mask on. We couldn’t see the kitchen staff, but other protocols was followed, no condiments on table, only brought when requested, but still brought full bottles of ketchup. I was under the impression it was required to have single serve portions, and salt and pepper packets.

We were fairly comfortable there, mostly due to lack of patrons. As restaurants get busier and the virus not diminishing, I may begin to feel less comfortable.
