4 Seasons? Try 52.

Five years ago, my beautiful wife and I, wrote a blog about Seasons 52 in Troy, Michigan. We decided we would write an updated blog about our recent visit there. Seasons 52, if you’re not familiar, is a chain restaurant a little bit more upscale, kind of like Eddie V ‘s, sort of, but not as fancy. They specialize in a little bit more fancy foods and appetizers. What makes Seasons 52 enticing is the fact that they offer a wide variety of foods that not only do they give the nutritional information about, but many of them are conducive to people who have dietary restrictions, either they’re trying to lose weight or they have issues with gluten and lactose.

Both Jen and I, are currently on weight loss journeys that our require us choosing options that are healthier. Because we were going out to eat, I did decide to indulge in a little bit of adult beverages. The server, whose name was Haley, was very nice and very prompt at taking our order. Jen decided she was not going to have any alcoholic beverages, but I asked for one of my standards, which is a gin martini with three anchovy stuffed olives. The server, Haley, said that they do not have anchovy stuffed olives, however, she would be more than glad to stuff some for me . I immediately thanked her and Jen and I both thought, this is a very conscientious employee because she was going to go the extra mile for the patron. She made me a Gunpowder gin martini. That happened to be a gin that I unknowingly tried before, and it turns out I didn’t particularly like it, however, this was not the fault of the server. She made a great martini. Just my gin choice was not what I was looking for.

Jen and I both decided that we wanted to have the Ahi Tuna Tartare. The Ahi Tuna Tartare is accompanied on a bed of wasabi infused, avocado, almost like a guacamole, a tropical salsa, and it served with crackers. It is a great appetizer and it’s very bountiful, as well as pretty to look at. We also decided to order the meatballs. These meatballs are a combination of pork and beef and come in a tomato sauce. The meatballs were very good. They didn’t blow me away, but they were very tasty, and we’re not dry by any means, so overall a very good appetizer.

For dinner, Jen and I both ordered salads. Jen ordered The Sesame Grilled Salmon salad while I ordered the Maui Tuna Crunch salad. First, I will discuss Jen’s salad. It was originally supposed to come with jicama, wood-fired peppers and mangoes on it, but the server told us that they had no more mango, so asked if they could substitute pineapple. Jen’s salad was a big pile of frisée lettuce, with some arugula as well.  Jen requested the salad with the dressing on the side, which was both a toasted sesame dressing with a lemongrass sauce. The lemongrass sauce didn’t taste like anything at all. It was bland without a hint of flavor. I don’t know how else to say it.

My salad was definitely the better of the two choices. It also came with greens, mango, wood-fired peppers and also had some slivered almonds that gave it a toasted crunch. I’m not one to normally order salmon out because it’s so ubiquitous, so I opted for the tuna. The tuna was seared nicely, although I could’ve used a little bit more of it, but I thought this was overall a very good choice.

We enjoyed our time there and definitely would go back. I encourage anybody who goes there to definitely order the Ahi Tuna Tartar. It is the best Tuna Tartare that we have had, and we’ve tried it in multiple places, but this one seems to be the best. I do recommend you give Seasons 52 a chance. I do not believe you will be disappointed.
