Virgin Islands Vacation Part III

Day three in paradise. Today was going to be a beach day and that beach was going to be Trunk Bay. Last time we were in St. Thomas and the girls heading over to St. John, the boys stayed back at Magen’s Bay to flex their muscles for all the pretty girls while their women were away. You can read that day’s adventures HERE. Omar and Andreas did not get to enjoy the splendor that is Trunk Bay. I have never seen a beach that has such soft sand and warm crystal-clear water. The sand is like walking on warm brown sugar. The water is like a bath and walking out into the water is perfectly smooth on your feet. No need for water shoes at this beach!

Since demolished by the last 2 hurricanes the snack shop and gift shop are under construction. Instead they have a temporary food truck that served some simple sandwiches and “Dang Good” hot dogs. Beer and a few simple cocktails. The beach is still open and beautiful as ever.

However, this day we were warned of the heavy shore break. That’s when the waves are pretty significant, and the undertoe rather strong. Just ask my sister. She took a few steps into the ocean and was turned towards her husband, enjoying a rather expensive cocktail when BAM! The wave knocked her face down, so hard that she face planted into the beach – hard. The waves overtook her and it was difficult for her to stand up. Now hilarious to us, she wanted me let everyone know how terrifying it was for her and that she got legitimately injured. Her ankle bruised and swelled, it looked worse day by day. Her “sand”wich she ate made her apprehensive of returning to the water. Andreas, who is not the strongest swimmer, would not even attempt the water. Omar and I enjoyed riding the waves in and back out again, but boy was sure is a workout!

We decided to move to a calmer beach and made our way to Maho beach, which is on the way back to Coral Bay. Maho beach is much quieter, but the Northern tide brought in tons of rocks. Walking on this beach is treacherous. You DO need water shoes here. If you make it out about 10 feet or so, the rocks tend to lessen, but getting out is very difficult. It is not much a beach. Imagine driving along, and see a small strip of sand and water, that’s what it is. A few tables, some shade trees, and lots of rocks.

Across the street is a cute bar, snack shop and gift store. I got a burger, Beth got a fish sandwich and the boys got Italian sausage. Typical bar food, but really hit the spot. We were famished! A burger, ice cold beer and lounge chairs and we were hooked up!

Later in day, back at the Villa we dined on grilled steak, potatoes, and corn. A relaxing evening, enjoying some cocktails overlooking that gorgeous view, enjoying a fairly decent dinner and great company. Until tomorrow, blog readers.
